Delighted Save the Naze campaigners said they have their best chance yet of protecting their crumbling heritage.
It follows a crucial get-together of all those parties involved to ensure vital funding plans move forward.
Without joint agreement, a bid for funding could not go ahead. But now all the relevant parties have got together and a way forward is being drawn up to save the historic cliffs at Walton.
Those present at the meeting included representatives from Tendring Council, English Nature, the Essex Wildlife Trust, engineering consultants Royal Haskoning and the Naze Protection Society.
The meeting followed eight years of campaigning by the environmental pressure group to get all the parties involved together to agree on funding.
Naze Protection Society secretary Paul Sheard said the society was pleased that agreement for a way forward had finally been achieved.
About £800,000 is needed to protect the crumbling cliffs.
