A CHURCH band named "Revelation" have performed their first full concert and raised cash for poor farmers in Africa.
Band member Andy Sentance, 49, of Orsett Road, Horndon-on-the-Hill, said: "There were over 100 people at the concert and we had a very appreciative audience.
"We raised £618, half of which will go to Harvest Help, a development charity which helps poor farmers in Africa.
"The other half is going towards providing new chairs for our church.
"The current ones are over 50 years old."
The band is made up of guitarist Mick Holland, Jon Kinights on keyboard, Andy Sentance on bass, vocals and guitar, his wife Anne Sentance on vocals and their children, Rebecca, 16, on vocals, Tim, 18, who plays the saxophone and bass, and drummer Peter Stephens.
Revelation, who formed in 2005, gave renditions of rock and pop songs in front of the congregation at St Cedd's Church, Crammavill Street on September 15.
They played music from the last five decades including 50s hits "All Shook Up", "Johnny B Goode" and "Roll Over Beethoven".
Andy added: "We are keen to perform more concerts in support of charities and good causes.
"We are not out to make money - we want to help others while having a good time playing music we enjoy."
